Speakers:
The commercial property insurance market sharpened its focus on the “basics” in Q2 of 2022 – what drove this pivot and how has it affected buyers? Which of the market shifts are cyclical in nature and which are here to stay? This panel will cover contract certainty, supply chain challenges, and the impact of inflation on materials, labor, and losses. We’ll also discuss ongoing challenges to achieving accurate property valuation.
Panelists:
The definition of “catastrophe” has been redefined: Insurers and their property clients increasingly face more major exposure from more than hurricanes and earthquakes. “Unmodeled losses” or secondary perils like wildfire, winter storms, severe convective storms, and flooding annually contribute a significant portion of insured losses worldwide. This panel will examine the factors driving higher losses from secondary perils, industry solutions and challenges, and the impact on the market from reinsurers all the way down to clients.
Panelists:
With a closer regulatory eye on environmental, social and governance issues in the boardroom, risk managers face many questions on how ESG fits into their enterprise risk management strategies. However, they may also find a disconnect between how the board views the issue and the insurance industry’s approach. This session will cover the component parts that make up “ESG” and its impact on property risk management and insurance. We’ll also take a look at new SEC reporting requirements around ESG and discuss how organizations can navigate the changes.
Panelists:
Technology has already changed the way the business of insurance is conducted and the pace of advancement isn’t likely to slow any time soon. Ease of communication, reducing redundancies, and improving contract certainty remain common goals for buyers and their insurance partners – will technology help or hinder? This panel will take a look at how risk managers want to interact with the market and how technology has improved underwriting, claims, and risk mitigation.
Panelists:
What do insurance buyers value most about their property programs? Which factors guide their decision-making – is it price over coverage, or coverage over price? Perhaps more significantly, how does insurance stay relevant amid fast-paced change? This panel will examine, from the buyer’s perspective, how the commercial property insurance sector is keeping up with demands and where more innovation is needed.
Panelists:
Hurricane Andrew was a wake-up call to the industry and led to the rapid adoption of
catastrophe models. Modeling technology and (re)insurers’ sophistication in managing
catastrophe risk have evolved since that time, but while much has changed, there’s still room
for improvement. Karen Clark will review the major advancements over the past 30 years
and will preview what the future holds for catastrophes and advanced modeling techniques,
including the impacts of climate change. Likely impacts of Hurricane Ian on the models
and the market will also be discussed.
